Brooklyn Public Library – Brooklyn Heights Branch

286 Cadman Plz W, Brooklyn, NY 11201

Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) is the sixth-largest library system in the country with 62 branches, and it relies heavily on private philanthropy to do its most transformative work. BPL’s creative public awareness campaigns have presented opportunities to share the story of its impact on the Brooklyn community and beyond and to take results to the next level.

Raising money and visibility for your organization’s work go hand-in-hand. However, aligning the work of Marketing and Development teams can be tricky. In our upcoming Insider Breakfast, you will learn how Brooklyn Public Library’s development and marketing arms work together to understand shared needs and seize opportunities to grow its community of cardholders, donors, and advocates. You will hear from Lauren Arana, Chief Development Officer, and Robin Lester Kenton, Exec. Vice President, External Affairs, on what it takes to:

  • ●    Align marketing and development department roles and goals to complement one another
  • ●    Learn how BPL’s 125th Anniversary and For Brooklyn campaigns used unified messaging toward shared goals
  • ●    Provide the infrastructure elements and tools to support both teams
  • ●    Prepare and engage the board
  • ●    Integrate traditional and digital strategies to widen your pool of prospects

Immediately following the conclusion of the program, Rachel Tiemann, Brooklyn Heights Library’s Branch Manager, will be available to give a tour of the brand new library.

Instructions to entering the Brooklyn Heights Library:

The entrance to the library is located on Cadman Plaza West (on the corner of Clinton St. and Cadman Plaza west).

About the Speakers

Lauren Arana, Chief Development Officer

Lauren Arana has dedicated her career to the civic and cultural life of New York City. As Chief Development Officer, she leads the department raising private support for BPL from corporate, foundation and individual donors. Lauren joined BPL in 2013 as Director of Individual Giving and later Assistant Vice President of Development, having substantially grown the Library’s philanthropic base by engaging donors in the many ways they can support BPL’s most transformational work.

Prior to working at the Library, Lauren worked in strategic planning, board relations and development at Jazz at Lincoln Center; was a capital projects specialist at the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and worked at the Municipal Art Society. A native of Brooklyn, Lauren holds a BA from Vassar College and an MS in Nonprofit Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania.
