About our Moderator


Poonam Prasad is Founder and President of Prasad Consulting & Research. The firm has provided board and staff training, advanced research, audit, major gift and capital campaign services to hundreds of local, national, and international nonprofits. Ms. Prasad serves on the board of the Giving Institute, the Editorial Review Board of Giving USA, the Advisory Board of the Women’s Coaching Alliance, and on the Advisory Committee of Women of Color in Fundraising and Philanthropy. Ms. Prasad is a past President of Women in Development New York (WID-NY), and a former member of the boards of the New York City Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) and the New York Women’s Agenda.


About our Speaker


Adrienne Brown (she/her) is the Vice President of Development Operations and Services for National Public Radio (NPR). In this role, Adrienne manages operations, financial, and database support services for all philanthropic activity, as it pertains to NPR. She also leads the strategic vision for digital philanthropy, notably the NPR Network donation, allowing supporters to give directly to NPR or the Member station of their choice. Prior to this, she served for twelve years as the Assistant Vice President, Annual Giving and Engagement Strategies at New York University. During that time, she managed the philanthropic engagement for alums, parents, students, and friends—annually securing over $33 million in unrestricted funding for the University. Adrienne has held progressively responsible roles in marketing and advertising, supporting companies such as American Express, General Motors, and United HealthCare. While at NYU, she was responsible for launching NYU One Day, NYU’s 24-hour day of giving; Rising Violets, NYU’s crowdfunding platform; and the 1831 Fund, NYU’s senior class gift program. In partnership with NYU’s Office of Global Inclusion, she managed participation-level fundraising for inclusion, diversity, belonging, equity, and access. Adrienne also served as an NYU Global Inclusion Officer and helped lead the Belonging and Inclusivity Committee in her department.


Adrienne is a judge, panelist, presenter, member and participant with a variety of organizations, including the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), Women in Development and African American Development Officers. Adrienne received her Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from NYU and is also a proud MSU Spartan alum—Go Green! She is also certified in Inclusive Philanthropy from Florida International University. In her spare time, Adrienne enjoys volunteering with the Chocolate Milk Café—a nonprofit supporting new mothers from the African diaspora. Most of all, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband, her two daughters, and the rest of her family.


Dr. Jane F. Karlin has enjoyed a distinguished career as a fundraiser and leader of large-scale advancement programs and comprehensive campaigns. She has held senior positions at New York University, The New School, Hadassah, UJA-Federation of New York, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, and The Jewish Agency for Israel. She has secured transformational gifts, developed board leadership, enhanced donor communication and stewardship, and motivated volunteers and staff to achieve aspirational goals. In June 2019 she retired from The Jewish Agency, where she was a Senior Vice President. She is committed to helping current and prospective fundraisers succeed, sitting on nonprofit boards, and pursuing research interests that reflect the intersection of philanthropy and American social and cultural history.

Today she is an Adjunct Professor affiliated with the George H. Heyman, Jr. Program for Philanthropy and Fundraising in the Center for Global Affairs at NYU School of Professional Studies, Current Board service includes Skidmore College Alumni Association, where she is Chair of the President's Society, the College's annual giving leadership community; Jewish Federation of the Berkshires, where she sits on the Development Committee; and Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ), which supports women's engagement in Reform synagogues across the United States and Canada. She is also Chair of the WRJ Grant Allocations Committee, which makes grants to groups whose work reflects WRJ's mission and values. She is a former President of Women in Development New York and holds degrees from Skidmore College (BA), Brown University (AM), and New York University (Ph.D.).


Kathleen Kearns is the Chief Philanthropy Officer and Senior Vice President for Montefiore Einstein, one of the country’s leading academic medical centers. She directs the fundraising programs that support the Montefiore hospitals in the Bronx and its medical school, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. 

 

For more than 25 years, Kathleen has dedicated her career to building support, raising money, and enhancing awareness for mission-driven organizations in her beloved hometown of New York City. Previously she was the Vice President for Development and External Affairs for the New York Genome Center and formerly Senior Vice President, Development and External Affairs for the Continuum Health Partners hospital system for 17 years. Earlier in her career, she was the first Director of Marketing for the Hospital for Special Surgery after beginning her career in NYC in external affairs with Beth Israel Medical Center.

 

Active in several civic and professional organizations, Kathleen serves on the Board of Directors for Catholic Charities Community Services of Rockland and is a member of the New York City Women’s Forum. Previously she was on the Board of the Hudson Square Business Improvement District and a member of the development committee of the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at the City College of New York. She was Chairman of the New York City Workforce Investment Board in the Bloomberg Administration from 2010 to 2014. Kathleen has an MBA from the Lubin School of Business of Pace University. She earned her bachelor’s degree at the Boston University College of Communication and served as chair of the college’s annual fund.
