Carmel Napolitano, Principal, is a recognized leader in retained executive search across the nonprofit sector, possessing a network that reaches from local to global organizations.
Carmel began her career in the University of Pennsylvania’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations and went on to serve as the Director of Prospect Information and Stewardship at Temple University. She then moved to providing professional services to nonprofits when she became the Director of Research Services and Special Projects for CCS Fundraising, Inc., an international fundraising consulting firm. Where she advised national and international clients on development research, prospect management, and conducting development audits and feasibility studies.
Carmel began working in executive search in 2003 and has a track record of conducting leadership searches with a focus on advocacy, arts/culture, economic development, education, environmental, global health, human services, and other mission-driven organizations. Her placements include leaders at the American University of Paris, Scouting America – Greater New York Council, GOOD Plus Foundation, Grace Outreach Bronx, Providence College, Seoul Foreign School, Friends Seminary, University of Pennsylvania, Stevens Institute of Technology, Union Square Partnership, Better Business Bureau of Metro New York, A Chance in Life (formerly Boys & Girls Town of Italy), Muso Health, Posse Foundation, Npower, Ownership Works, the University of Southern California’s Shoah Foundation, Friends of the Domaine de Chantilly, and Hudson County (NJ) Community College.
Carmel currently serves on the National Advisory Committee of Women of Color in Fundraising and Development (WOC). She previously served on the boards of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater New York Chapter from 2018 through 2025, and with Women In Development New York from 2012 through 2018.
Carmel is committed to giving back to the nonprofit community, which also brings her firsthand knowledge of boards and governance. Carmel is a former lead instructor for the New York Junior League’s Nonprofit Board Clearinghouse course. She is also a member of the board of the Angelica Patient Assistance Program, a foundation with a mission to enhance the lives of economically challenged patients in need of long-term medical care. She is also a board member of Dance to Unite, a nonprofit that partners with after-school programs to offer free dance classes with an educational component celebrating cultural diversity. Carmel serves as an alumni volunteer with PennPAC, which uses the intellectual talents and professional skills of alumni of the University of Pennsylvania in a meaningful and socially beneficial way by offering pro bono consulting to nonprofit organizations.
Carmel received her undergraduate degree from Villanova University and a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Mary Plum serves as a Director at McDermott + Bull and is part of the firm’s Education, Non-Profit, + Public Entities Practice, based in New York City, NY. Passionate about the power of mission-driven organizations, Mary is committed to helping nonprofits secure exceptional leaders who can advance innovation and create lasting impact.
With nearly a decade of experience in nonprofit executive search, Mary has partnered with organizations across a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, education, human services, environmental advocacy, and global development. Prior to joining McDermott + Bull, she spent seven years with a boutique executive search and fundraising consulting firm exclusively focused on the nonprofit sector, including notable clients like Children’s Aid, FamilyAid Boston, Part of the Solution, Robin Hood, and The Clayton Christensen Institute for Disruptive Innovation.
Mary earned her master’s degree from the University of Galway in Ireland and her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Fredonia. She resides in Brooklyn, NY.

Terri Rutter, Assistant Vice President, brings a wide array of nonprofit, advancement, and communications and marketing expertise to Lindauer, excelling in placing top leaders and executing team builds in multiple sectors.
Having served in various senior advancement and management roles, Terri is well-versed in the responsibilities of leadership. One of the firm’s most senior consultants, she is experienced in recruiting CEOs and Executive Directors, SVPs and VPs, National Directors, and high-level frontline fundraising, operations, and marketing and communications professionals for a broad range of world-class educational and medical institutions and national nonprofits. Early career positions at Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health honed Terri’s experience working effectively with leading researchers, physicians, and academic medical administrators. She built and led creative integrated advancement communications and donor relations teams within major academic medical centers including Harvard Medical School, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, and NYU Langone Medical Center. Each of these roles included developing and managing complex charity brands and models. Terri has also served as Editor of the Harvard Medical Alumni Magazine; Senior Editor at The Dana Foundation in Washington, DC; and Managing Editor at the consumer website Scientific Learning in Oakland, CA.
As a consultant, Terri has directed multi-faceted, integrated marketing, communications, donor cultivation, and stewardship strategies for various Institutes and units at MIT, Alzheimer’s Association, UMass Medical School Department of Psychiatry, Children’s Hospital Boston, Tufts Medical Center, Montefiore Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, and the Betsy Lehman Center. She has a broad freelance writing portfolio for numerous publications, including Associated Press, Boston Herald, New Physician Magazine, and the British Medical Journal, as well as for digital channels.
Terri holds a BA from The Ohio State University and a master’s degree from Northeastern University.
